About Hindi

Hindi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken primarily in India, where it is one of the two official languages of the central government. It is the fourth most spoken language in the world. Hindi is written in the Devanagari script, also used for Sanskrit, Marathi, and Nepali. Hindi vocabulary draws heavily from Sanskrit, with significant influences from Persian, Arabic, and English.

Cultural Note

Hindi uses Devanagari script, written left to right with a distinctive horizontal line (shirorekha). Hindi has two grammatical genders and uses postpositions rather than prepositions.
