About Morse Code Translator
Morse code is a method of transmitting text information as a series of on-off tones, lights, or clicks that can be directly understood by a skilled listener or observer without special equipment. It was invented in the early 1840s by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail for use with the telegraph system. Each letter, number, and punctuation mark is represented by a unique combination of short signals (dots) and long signals (dashes). For example, the letter A is represented by "·-", B by "-···", and so on.
How It Works
Our Morse Code translator uses the @ozdemirburak/morse-code-translator package to encode and decode Morse code. Enter Your Text — Type English text in the left box to encode, or Morse code in the right box to decode. Morse code uses dots (·) for short signals and dashes (-) for long signals. Words are separated by spaces, and letters by forward slashes (/). Copy & Share — Use the copy button to copy your result.
Common Uses
- Emergency Communication — Morse code can be used with simple tools like flashlights or mirrors.
- Learning — Students learn about historical communication methods.
- Puzzles & Games — Create or solve Morse code puzzles.
- Hobby Radio — Amateur radio operators still use Morse code.
- Scouting — Morse code is part of many scouting merit badge programs.

FAQ
What is Morse code?
Morse code is a character encoding scheme that uses a series of dots and dashes to represent letters, numbers, and punctuation. It was developed in the 1830s for telegraph communication.
How do I read Morse code?
Morse code is read by recognizing the patterns of dots (short signals) and dashes (long signals) that represent each letter. Short letters like E (·) and T (-) take less time to transmit than longer ones.
Is Morse code still used today?
While not as common as in the past, Morse code is still used by amateur radio operators, in aviation, and by hobbyists. It remains valuable for emergency communication.
What does SOS mean in Morse code?
SOS is ··· −−− ··· (three dots, three dashes, three dots). It is the internationally recognized distress signal.
