About Korean

Korean is the official language of both South Korea and North Korea, spoken by approximately 80 million people. Hangul, the Korean writing system, was created in the 15th century under King Sejong the Great and is considered one of the most scientifically designed scripts. Korean grammar is subject-object-verb (SOV), and the language features an elaborate system of honorifics.

Korean uses different speech levels: formal polite (-습니다), informal polite (-요), and casual (반말). The language has two number systems: native Korean and Sino-Korean.
